OUR 40TH ANNIVERSARY FESTIVITIES BEGIN!
WITH A READING & A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
We have reached our 40th birthday month and there is so much going on, it’s all a bit dizzying.
Allow us to explain…
First, the very good news: On April 11, the date of our opening back in 1983, we will launch 40TH READINGS AT CHARTWELL BOOKSELLERS, our video reading series toasting the 40 best books written about Winston Churchill during our 40 year existence.
Our first book:
THE LAST LION: Visons of Glory 1874-1932, by William Manchester, which was published in 1983.
Our guest reader: JOHN LITHGOW.
Yes, you read that right. The brilliant actor who played Winston Churchill on the first season of The Crown (famously, and eloquently).
We will share the link for this reading with you on April 11, when the video drops on our YouTube channel. You will be able to watch any time after that, in perpetuity. Further readings will follow, weekly, as we celebrate the 40 best books with different guest readers.
As for the bad news: An enormous lobby construction project has engulfed us here at Park Avenue Plaza. (Talk about bad timing!) For the next few months, we strongly advise you to phone first when you visit the store. We are open, but access is maze-like. If we are expecting you, we can escort you in easily. So, do call before you come, if you can, or just ring us from the lobby and we’ll be out to greet you in our finest 40thAnniversary hardhats.
As Winston Churchill did say:
“Never give in, never, never, never, never — in nothing, great or small, large or petty.”
Especially anything as petty as a construction project.
