~NOVEMBER IS WINSTON CHURCHILL’S 150TH BIRTHDAY~

CELEBRATE WITH US!

We have now celebrated 40 Churchill birthdays in our 41 years of existence but this month we celebrate number 150: November marks Winston Churchill’s 150th Birthday.

Join us for two special lunchtime Churchill Birthday events in our lobby at Park Avenue Plaza. Our festivities will also savor the end of our lobby obstruction and the return of free access to the store. 

First up, on Monday, November 18, at 1:00pm, our dear friend and colleague Katherine Carter, the esteemed longtime manager of the house and collections at Chartwell (Manor), will read from her new book: CHURCHILL’S CITADEL: Chartwell and The Gatherings Before the Storm, an engrossing reexamination of how Winston Churchill, while out of power in the 1930s, turned his Chartwell home into his resistance headquarters against Hitler and the Nazi’s rise in Germany.

Next, British film star Celia Imrie — an Olivier Award winner for her West End stage work, but also a novelist — will read from her latest book, MEET ME AT RAINBOW CORNER; a London-during-the-Blitz-page-turner centered on a Piccadilly social club for U.S. troops called Rainbow Corner. 

Ms. Imrie, to us, will always be “Mrs. P.” — Violet Pearman, Winston Churchill’s personal secretary during his Wilderness Years; a movie character she inhabited in THE GATHERING STORM opposite Albert Finney as Churchill.
