Description
This is a very good set of of the rare First Canadian edition, in the even rarer dust jackets, which are generally in excellent condition, edge-chipped and darkened along the spines, else fine.
The Canadian edition was largely bound from English edition sheets but in purple cloth. The dust jackets were printed identically to the English edition but without prices on the jacket flaps. The tops of the first three volumes were stained purple; the fourth volume was taken directly from the First English edition printing, with a top edge that is gilded and a printed flap price on the dust jacket.
The books here are clean, unfaded and unfoxed. The jackets are unclipped.
Really something of a rarity, and quite a nice example.

Marlborough is Winston Churchill’s majestic biography of John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough; soldier, statesmen, hard-headed Churchillian ancestor. Initially published in England as a lush four-volume set and then as a somewhat less deluxe six-volume set in America, it was subsequently issued in an unabridged two-volume edition and a single-volume abridgment.
